Research Impact & Significance – In the Zhu group, one of our focuses is on synthesizing fluorescent indicators that can be used to detect various species via cell imaging. These indicators may help to answer a variety of questions in the world of chemical biology and pathogenesis, such as the mechanistic role of reactive oxygen species and zinc ions in the proliferation of diseases and cancers of the brain, cardiovascular system, reproductive system, and others. By answering these key mechanistic questions that are not currently well understood, therapies can be developed to treat or prevent these diseases and cancers in the future.
