Research Impact & Significance – Research in low cost renewable energy sources is highly crucial in a world of ever-increasing energy demand but yet limited fossil reserves. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) show promise as an alternative to current solar cell technologies. The use of low cost materials, such as TiO2 and organic dyes, and solution based manufacturing procedures make DSSCs the ideal cells to meet this increasing global energy demands. My research focuses on improving the efficiency per cost of these cells through manipulation of important energy and electron transfer events that dictate their performance.
