Research Impact & Significance – I research high-temperature superconductors, the understanding of which may bring huge advances to technology. High magnetic fields are required to study the underlying physics of these materials and discover why they superconduct, and part of my research is the design and construction of instrumentation to be used with these magnets. The image submitted is of the magnet used in my research, double exposed with Bitter disks, slices of the High-magnetic field magnets. The Bitter disk design allows researchers to achieve the high-magnetic fields needed for my and many other fields of research. The image of our magnet setup is the bedrock of many condensed matter laboratories across the world.
